Drug Addicts

Addiction is an issue that requires treatment. Addicted to drugs should be considered as a disease so that people could be treated instead of sending them to jail. I think the best way to solve the drug problem is provide mandatory drug treatment to those who are affected.
Sending a drug addict to jail does not make her realize that she do have a problem. Most of drug addicts they continue to do drugs while trying to be careful so that they do not get caught. Once they are sent to jail after they complete their time and come out of jail they still try to proceed with using drugs. Most of the drug users who are in jail they admit that they have been charged with the same crime before. This confirms that jail sentence does not solve their addictions .It just helps them to stay away from it for the period that they are in jail. By watching geographic channel " inside prison"I saw that, sometimes the officers in jail order all prisoners to stay out of their lockers so that they can inspect them. Once in a while they find drugs like cocaine, marijuana and others hidden in some of prisoner’s belongings. This indicates that for some reason they have an ability to get drugs while they are in jail.

I agree that people who are drug addicts should be treated for their addiction. If they are found guilty with an illegal substance on them by law enforcement, I still think that they should be put into a drug treatment program and then law enforcement can follow the necessary procedures. Sending people to jail for being addicted to an illegal drug doesn’t help them. Drug users can die while in jail by not receiving proper care or they can receive their drugs from someone else who is in the same jail. If people in jail can receive treatment for their drug addiction, receive skills training in an area of work that they like to do then, they would have something to do other than think about drugs. I also think that they can be given community service duty for 3yrs. rather than receiving jail time. The former drug addicts would have higher self-esteem for themselves and set goals for themselves. They would be self supportive and would not want to use illegal drugs.
